About Us

About us

Hello there! We’re Marissa and Josh, the creators of Wandering Love Letters. Let us share with you a little about ourselves and why we decided to start this page!

We met in 2017 during our first year in medical school and officially started dating in 2018. Since then, we have been inseparable. We got married in the spring of 2021 in Indianapolis – and, “for better for worse” (pun intended), the same weekend we graduated medical school. Now we live in Iowa with our son, Noah, and our dog, Theo.

Our adventures together started with little day trips to the wineries nestled across Southwest Michigan and road trips to the Carolinas. It wasn’t until the world started opening up after the pandemic that we were able to really go out and explore the world together. Our honeymoon to Costa Rica was the first international destination we had been to together and was Josh’s first time out of the country. It was this trip that sparked the idea to document our travels for you all to see and a little bit selfishly for ourselves as well!

My biggest passions have always been travel and photography. I actually have never been much of a writer, but this journey has helped me work on this skill. Between the two of us, Josh is the one who loves writing. After our trip to Costa Rica, we decided we wanted a way to document our travels together and inspire others to see and experience the world. Thus, Wandering Love Letters was born. This site is for those who want to experience the world through luxury and boutique hotels, unforgettable experiences, and of course, delicious food!

Traveling with kids isn’t just about the memories, Traveling with kids isn’t just about the memories, it actually benefits their development.

Here’s what science says:
• New environments boost their brain development.
• Shared experiences strengthen emotional security.
• They build adaptability and resilience with every new place.
• Exposure to new faces + sounds boosts social + language growth.
• And even if they don’t remember every detail, the positive emotions stay with them.

So yes, it takes more planning. But the benefits? Completely worth it!

A holiday date night in Carmel, Indiana We love l A holiday date night in Carmel, Indiana

We love living on the north side of Indianapolis because there are so many amazing restaurants and fun events, especially during the holidays!

Here are two of our favorite ways to get into the holiday spirit in Carmel that can easily be combined into one festive date night.

Carmel Christkindlmarkt - voted the Best Holiday Market by USA Today 4 times and is in the running to win again this year! It’s the perfect spot to wander around the many vendors looking at the incredible handcrafted goods and deciding what to eat (between the waffles, wurst, glüwein, kebabs, etc it’s so hard to choose!). It’s definitely an experience worth traveling for and it’s only gotten bigger and better since we last visited 6 years ago.

3UP Rooftop - @3uprooftoplounge is in their Winter Wonderland era and you need to experience it for yourself! The entire place is decked out, even the outdoor patio which is somehow perfectly heated despite being completely open. It’s the perfect spot to end the night with a festive cocktail and some delicious food by the fire.

Who are you bringing with you on a cozy getaway to Who are you bringing with you on a cozy getaway to The Townie Cottages in Union Pier, Michigan? | hosted stay

The @thetowniecottages was the perfect fall getaway for our family. Not only did we get to enjoy all the incredible amenities of the property (like the hot tub and fully stocked kitchen) but we loved how close it was to all the amazing things SW Michigan has to offer, like farm-to-table restaurants, wineries, and adorable beach towns.
